In Vedic scriptures, Goddess Saraswati is the goddess of learning, wisdom, knowledge, music, arts and skills. In Sanskrit, Saraswati means "essence of personality". Goddess Saraswati is the wife of Brahma, the creator of the world, and as a result is herself the source of all knowledge. Since knowledge is necessary for creation, Saraswati symbolizes the creative power of Brahma.
She is beautiful, elegant, graceful and radiant with the light of knowledge. Saraswati consists of surasa-vati. It means the one with a lot of water. In the same way that dirt and impurities are washed away by the flow of water in a river, ignorance in the manas (mind) is swept away by the knowledge and wisdom that is Saraswati.
She is the river of consciousness that gives life to creation, the goddess of the dawn, whose rays dispel the darkness of ignorance. May your life be permeated with her extraordinary blessings.
